Lack of funds and the need to recruit new players was finally to prove too much for the long established team. Sadly all players who were signed for the Smithfield will be suspended by the Staffs F.A. until all fines and outstanding monies are paid to the City Traders League and to the Smithfield management. The Smithfield suffered badly in the credit crunch because of unpaid sponsorship from the Smithfield pub (£250) and players owing money for outstanding subs and sponsorship (£300). The players debts will have to be settled before they will be allowed to play football again and hopefully this will give us a chance of starting afresh next season. Sadly the Smithfield sponsorship will prove difficult to claim back. To make matters worse he has also broken his ankle in the freak accident.
