I agree mask we need to do some grass work, we could do defending drills while working as a unit to strenthen understanding and all manner of bountyfull things. Not playing a game between ourselves cus that gets old fast and we dont seem to get anywhere with it. I have now seen a physio about my back and i will be at next weeks training session as it feels much better now. Look forward to seeing you all again for some pre-season work.

I look at the posts on this page and put my head in my hands with dismay.
    Talk, talk, talk.
The build up to the season is clear.
Step 1......Basic fitness work ie running to get our fitness up to a stage where grass work (shuttles etc) will not injure players whose muscles have not been built up after the close season. Without this everything else is pointless. Yes you may be a better player than the opposition. But if he's fitter than you you won't get chance to prove it because he'll get to the ball first.
Step 2 ........Running and grass work. After step 1 you should be able to do proper training instead of 5 minutes and then you're knackered.
Step 3........Running, grass work and ball skills/tactics.
    Step 4........friendlies
Step 5........League matches (but still doing steps 1-3)
Step 6........Winning the league because no one can live with us, either skill-wise or fitness-wise.

Now i see players turn up (some don't even do that) on Thursdays and watch their team mates going for the run (step 1) and don't even attempt to do it themselves.
I guess they either think they're fitter or better than the lads that do the run. Then it could be that they can't do the run because they're not fit enough. Or maybe they just don't want to do the run cus it's boring.

I will promise you this, if you do the run and push yourselves mentally and physically so that by the time the season kicks off you can run 6 miles and not even break into a sweat, then you will run the opposition into the ground. You will be faster mentally than the opposition, you will be faster over 10 yards than the opposition. In the last 3rd of a game you will feel as fresh as you did before the game. the skill you have all got will be amplified by the fact that you are doing things quicker and better for longer.

These of course may be the ramblings of someone living in a dream world.

These also may be the words of someone who actually knows what he's talking about.

Think it through players and give it a try, it may just work.

I will be coming to training this week, for a light training session i.e. sit in defence and see how the old feet feel. The wrist is nearly better now, but I'd like to leave it as long as possible before resuming training invliving it.

I will be doing the run of course!

Can we do step 1 on Sundays too? Mostly cause im bored on Sundays but secondly I dont want to have to wait for the slackers to decide to do step 1 before the rest of us can move on. Otherwise the excuse for failure this season will be that there was no step 2. I like the sound of ball skills/tactics in step 3. Anyway the point being that its not long till step 4 so we could do with getting the first few done.

Also is there any chance of training at the cricket club on Thursdays? The pitch is bigger to accomodate all of our returning 'injured' players, we go there any way to the showers and the pub, plus its just across the road from my house

Well done to the 6 players who turned up at Fenton Park yesterday and did 150 minutes training in extremely hot conditions. It's this sort of dedication that will set us apart from the rest come the end of the season.
Well done to Matt Rogers, although he couldn't make training because of family commitments, went out on an 11 mile run last night to make up for it.
