The mighty Smithfield are back on track with a convincing 4-1 victory over table toppers Potters Wheel.

Smithfield were in an eager mood to rectify the 4-0 thrashing given by Potter's Wheel (formerly Britannia) in same fixture last year (the game was rescheduled as a Smithfield home game due to a cup match on Potters' pitch) and didn't disappoint.

Smithfield kicked downhill first half on a very blustery day, and from the off were in control. The back four had Lee Jones in their back pockets with a tight offside line and well-oiled, regimental defending.

The early pressure was from Smithfield, and Potter's Wheel were penned back in their own half constantly, allowing Matt Rogers to try his luck with a 30 yard power-drive that went just over the bar.

Kev Jones struck the first blow shortly afterwards with a superb shot from a sublime cross from the right side of midfield by Askey. The ball fell to the feet of Jones 10 yards out on the left side of the box and Jones hit it early across the 'keeper, netting at the far post.

With the early goal and confidence riding high, Rob Evans soon doubled the lead to 2-0 with a great goal from where???

Smithfield extended their lead to 3-0 late on in the first half with a goal from Seymour how??

Maskery was unlucky not to score with a net-buster 8 yards out, but for an amazing reaction save from the Potter's Wheel 'keeper.

The second half started much as the first, even though Smithfied were battling uphill against the wind.

Hickin proved to have the ability to get into goalscoring positions and was unlucky not to have a hat-trick with three very good chances throughout the game.

Potter's Wheel were reduced to playing route one football in constant attempts to feed Lee Jones through, but Stanway and his defence were working well together to smother out everything that Potter's Wheel could throw at them, which is to say only one shot requiring a save throughout the whole of the second half.

The Smithfield defence were undone only once, from a long ball clearance by the 'keeper that bounced sweetly for Baggo to slot past an oncoming Stanway, after Askey fell asleep momentarily (something to do with being up all night for the birth of his second son).

Not to be outdone, and eager to snuff out the hope raised in the Potter's Wheel team, Smithfield answered with another superb goal from Evans how??

Seymour was unlucky near the end with a spectacular reverse-overhead-bicycle-kick that would have been Goal of the Decade had it have gone in.

All-in-all a far better team performance this week, with Baggo wishing he'd signed for the Smithfield as he'd be more likely to win some silverware this season.

    MotM: Rob Evans
Scorers: Kev Jones, Rob Evans (2), Paul Seymour
