Performance v Signalman (H)

Take the 8-2 home loss in context with a scratch team out, an awful lot of bad luck, and good opposition, the performance of some players was exceptional and will prove that with a full team we will have nothing to fear from Signalman. We will have learned a hell of a lot more about them than they have about us and it’s up to the mighty Smithfield to use that to our advantage when we next meet.

Stanway

Had a busy day in goal, let in 8, will be disappointed with a couple of them, will be gutted with the penalty “save”. Opponents man of the match.
7/10

Clarke

Showed real commitment in an under pressure back line, was often outnumbered but never gave up. His tackle for the penalty was a classic.
7/10

Harris

Backs against the wall stuff from the gritty defender, under constant pressure during the second half but battled to the end.
7/10

Askey

Last but not least of the “3 Amigos” at the back (or should that be 3 “howmanygoals”). Really put in a good shift and tried his best to slow down play and keep possession. Scored from the spot.
7/10

Craig (M)

Never stopped running all game, battled well to create the 1st goal and stood tall in the land of the giants that was midfield.
7/10

Maskery

Powerful display in midfield and everywhere else on the pitch, work rate was exceptional and he ran himself into the ground.
8/10

Evans

Good that he was back in these desperate times, battled well and scored his expected goal.
7/10

Craig (T)

A career threatening knee injury didn’t stop him from donning the famous red shirt, showed a cool head and his pass completion rate was up there with the best.
9/10

Ford

Showed that when the going gets tough it’s gonna get tougher when he’s got the ball. Needs to keep the ball more and give the defence a rest.
5/10

Ben Plant

Emergency signing, ran himself into the ground within an hour, was up against strong defenders, but hey he gave it his best shot.
10/10

Greg Woodcock

Signed on the day and showed enough to prove with a good side around him he can do a job. Played as the lone striker and managed to keep the defence on edge all game.
10/10

Subs

None

AWOL

Bagnall – Slight strain
Jones – Knee operation
Baggo – Who knows?
Latham – Ankle injury
Smith – Knee injury
Tudor – Yet another day trip (LEEDS)

With the average rating of 7.9 for the other players on the pitch.

Myself playing a 5 has properly let the team down. My performance was clearly much worse than the talented performance the majority of you showed on Sunday and obviously I take the majority of the blame for the defeat.

I have just been looking back at the ratings since my arrival last year. Looking at the time as a whole, I have generally been one of the worst performers. I am obviously struggling at this standard of football and because of this I am genuinely looking at my future at this club.

To be perfectly honest, the more I have to read of this utter gash, the more demotivated I am to turn up at all. The way I feel at this particular moment I don’t know if I’ll even bother turning up Sunday, never mind the rest of the season!

Couldn't agree more mate. I think it's ridiculous, especially when the manager gives himself himself a 9. He doesn't seem to realise the effect it can have on players. How everyone else canget 7's or more and you get a 5 I'll never know.

We weren't outclassed by a superior team, and yes there were 4 last minute replacements, but who underperformed for us to concede 8 goals? I can't remember them all but a lot of them ended up being either a player in a 1-on-1 or the ball going to another of their players, unmarked, for a tap-in.

Can we say it's the 3 defenders? Were they outmanned? If so, where were the midfielders/wingers? If not, where were they?

As in (nearly?) every game so far this season our offside was sprung.

We certainly had our chances, Rob missed a good one to equalise 1-1, and the new guy spurned had some glorious chances. Maybe the game would have been different had they have gone in??

But yes, a 5 is ridiculous.

The player ratings are relative only to the players ability.
A rating of 5 is outrageous i agree, but takes into account the skill, talent and overall capability of the player being rated.
Look at the ratings on a one to one basis and you'll discover that for example 2 players got 10 and one player got 9. The rating would suggest that they couldn't possibly have played any better because of their limitations. The fact that Ben was carrying 2 of these players on his side of the pitch made his job even harder thus he gets a 7. The manager gave himself a 9, because he physically did his best on the day trust me on that. Does 9 mean he'll get in the team next week?, no cus clearly that wasn't good enough.
Let's have a reality check here you played a good side with 8.5 men and the last 25 minutes with less than that. The offside trap isn't worth a discussion. We played with 3 at the back to accommodate the "4 new boys" and it's hard enough with 3 when you have 6 good players in front of you. when you have 4 you're going to be under pressure constantly. The only way to relieve that pressure is to keep the ball better in midfield and up front. We had one new boy up front so the midfield were the key players who needed to keep hold of the ball. This is where the rating of 5 came from however harsh it seems I would say that you were well below your capabilities in this respect on Sunday.
I know what a good player you are and at your best you're twice as good as Sunday suggests. If I've misjudged or over rated you then I apologise.
